How to Prepare for Your Brazilian Bikini Wax Appointment

Getting a brazilian wax – whether it’s your first time or fifth time, it can be nerve wracking to some. While there’s no need to be shy or self conscious, the best way to come into even the most intimate of waxing sessions is to be prepared!

The best tips to prepare for your wax appointment

In this article, we’re going to go over the best tips and tricks to prepare you for your upcoming Brazilian wax session. Hopefully, with the knowledge provided, you will be able to get those pesky pubic hairs removed while feeling calm and confident about the process.

Grow your hair out to a ¼ inch – don’t shave!

The “Golden Rule” in waxing is ensuring that you resist the urge to shave before or between sessions! It is critical to the success of your wax that the hair you desire to be removed be at least a quarter of an inch long.

Shower and exfoliate

Besides resisting the urge to shave, there is also the matter of exfoliating. Exfoliating aids in removing any dead or dry skin while also clearing up excess body oils, dirt, and debris regularly. When your skin is clean, the wax has a better chance at securing itself to the hair you’re trying to remove.

Note: While it is crucial to exfoliate regularly, it is strongly recommended that you do not exfoliate 24 hours prior to your waxing session.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours

Alcohol and caffeine are both stimulants and can cause the skin to be more sensitive to pain as a result. For those with sensitive skin, or those who want to cut down on the pain they may experience, you will do best avoiding these two things for at least 24 hours prior to their appointment.

Take a painkiller 30 minutes before

On the topic of pain, if you’re sensitive to the process of waxing or fear that you may have a low threshold for pain, there is no shame in making sure you stay comfortable. Taking a small painkiller such as ibuprofen around 30 minutes prior to your appointment will not only aid with any discomfort, but also minimize any irritation and swelling that may occur.

Wear comfortable clothing

The last thing you want after a waxing appointment is to wear clothes that are only going to irritate your skin and cause you to feel uncomfortable. If you want to feel great and minimize any negative reaction your skin may have, come to your appointment wearing loose fitting, comfortable clothes.

What to expect during your Brazilian wax

Now that we have an idea on how to prepare for a Brazilian wax, let’s go over what to expect during your waxing session.

At Beauty and the Wax Suite, we will bring you in and walk you through what to expect during this session. If you have any questions or concerns, we will go over those with you at that time.

Once we’ve discussed what you want for your Brazilian wax, we will ask you to disrobe and wipe down the area we’re waxing with hygienic cloth. This ensures that the wax will have a better time adhering to your hair. Once cleansed and sat on the waxing table, your wax technician will start the waxing process and continue until all the desired hair is removed. The session is wrapped up by cleaning any residual wax off and moisturizing the area.

How long does a Brazilian wax last?

The longevity of your wax is dependent on your body's natural hair growth cycles. While everyone's a little bit different, we expect for a Brazilian to last at least 3 to 4 weeks, on average. At that point, you’ll want to come in for your next session!

Great Brazilian waxing aftercare makes for best results!

Contrary to what you may think, there is actually a small level of upkeep needed to keep your skin smooth and healthy. If you intend on waxing on a regular basis, it is important to know the simple dos and don'ts of waxing aftercare.

What should you avoid right after a Brazilian wax?

After your Brazilian wax, it’s important to avoid any possible irritants. These irritants can range from tight fitting clothing to sweating within 24 hours following your waxing session. It is important to avoid direct sun exposure, working out, and even intimate time with anyone for at least 24 hours following your waxing appointment

In addition, if it is at all possible, we recommend that you do not submerge the newly waxed area in water – this includes the beach, your pool, or even your bathtub. When showering, use lukewarm to room temperature water, and use a perfume-free body wash.

Exfoliate and moisturize to prevent ingrown hairs

Once at least a day has passed, it is strongly recommended that you formulate a routine exfoliating schedule to prevent ingrown hairs. Using a gentle exfoliating scrub ensures that your new hair growth will surface without issue. Beauty and the Wax Suite offers a “First-Timer” bag filled with samples of aftercare products.

Following your exfoliation routine, it is important to follow up with a moisturizer. Keeping your skin hydrated is important when you want to avoid ingrown hairs and a buildup of dry skin cells.

Book your follow-up appointment

To ensure that you get the most out of your wax, it is important to be thinking about your next appointment. Planning and solidifying a routine wax schedule will assist in sparser, thinner hair growth over time.
